Mark Rechler

Mark Rechler is a Musician/Songwriter/Architect who focuses on 3 separate musical projects.

CIRCUS MIND, a New Orleans-influenced funk/rock band, who released a new single just this past Friday called “Jazzfest Time”, with special guests Ivan Neville and Big Sam. The band is heading into its 20th year and working on their third release.

OUTHOUSE, an electronica lounge project with 2 releases complete and another coming out this year.

And FALLING WATER, a darker, singer-songwriter vibe, also with 2 releases out.

Mark has played and recorded with members of the Neville Brothers, The Meters, Soulive, Rebirth Brass Band, Eric Lindell, The Radiators and more. Mark’s music has been featured on The Discovery Network, Comedy Hall of Fame and Animal Planet.

Mark’s song topics can sometimes traverse the darker edges of space, such as drug addiction, death, shattered dreams…yet somehow manage to leave you with a little light at the end of the tunnel to grab onto. Or other times can be snarky, humorous stories with interesting characters.

The new release “Jazzfest Time” is a tribute to the best festival in the world, “The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival”, and Mark is donating all the profits from the song to The New Orleans Musician’s Clinic, to give back to his favorite city. $7500 has already been raised. Wolf Schubert-k + Bine Morgenstern

Wolf Schubert-K. is an old hand of his genre and yet an insider tip. The singer-songwriter has always carved out his own niche in European rock and folk music.

In the 90s Wolf was on the road as a pioneer of what was then called “Alternative Country”. With the DIRTY BIRDIES, the COSMIC TWINS and the American songwriter/author Bob Lyng, he toured France, Belgium and the Netherlands.

After a ten-year-long, search-driven recovery, Wolf returned with his “Sacred Blues” album in 2009, clarified and much more thoughtful.

After a total of 5 albums, his latest album “Odyssey” is out now.

Bine Morgenstern has been around herself in her own right. As the singer of the all girl group „The Slags“ she became popular during the RIOT GRRRL days, yet the girls never saw themselves as part of that movement. They are still active playing their songs in a downgraded unplugged format.

If you attend a performance of Wolf Schubert-K. you experience authentic music with rough edges. Protest songs, folk ballads, thoughtful country and gospel songs and roots-rock elements shape the foundation for his memorable voice often joined by beautiful harmonies of BINE MORGENSTERN and his stories of fall and rise.

Wolf regularly spends time in Canada due to family ties, subsequently, he opened shows for the Canadian songwriters Catherine MacLellan and Amanda Rheaume as well as the Americans Terry Lee Hale and David Munyon.

He regularly organizes the GERMANICANA FOLK FESTIVAL in the Rhine-Main region with friends and musicians of the genre.

As a committed individualist and independent artist, he has released his latest album under his own banner. “I cannot yield to a band or to a label or anything else that holds me down” says the free spirit…

Clare Means

Clare Means’ latest album, Sidewalk Astronomy, is a cohesive patchwork of musings on life in Los Angeles, love, forgiveness, and the recent loss of her estranged father. Sidewalk Astronomy debuted at #1 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter charts and #66 (right below Kanye’s newest album) on the iTunes All Genres Chart. As Clare says, “Most of the songs on Sidewalk Astronomy were written over the course of a couple years and were sparked by a variety of moments in my life… the day I found out my father was sick, when I fell in love, when I knew my relationship was doomed, when I got my heart broken, the day my father died, and when I woke up from a strange dream about sheep.” Clare’s quirky take on life is fresh and comforting at the same time.

Part of what makes Clare stand out as a performer is the unconventional path she has taken. Always a hustler, Clare has made a name for herself as one of LA’s most popular, hardest working street performers. She’s built a dedicated following by being one of the very few performers to perform almost exclusively original music. While most depend on covers to stop foot traffic, Clare learned to work on her songwriting craft and challenged herself to capture audiences using her own songs. Clare’s street performances are musical experiments in which she interacts with the colorful and chaotic scene of the environment.

Lacey Kay Cowden

Ms. Lacey Kay Cowden was born just before midnight, on a sweltering Sunday in Lafayette, Louisiana. Her grandfather used to say, “A southerner has to have a little hell in their bones, to endure this kinda heat.” To hear her tell it, “There was nothing wilder, crazier or lovelier than my kin. All the stories, music, cooking and calamity that came from my upbringing has seeped into the deepest parts of me. When you know you’re cut from a cloth of extraordinary characters, tellers of tales, banterers, gamblers, music makers, and the biggest hearted folks, it was natural to set out and do exactly what I dreamed … and I dreamed in music. I wanted only to be a rambler, a lover, and a seeker of the gritty, shining places that inspire me to sing my own story.”

Cowden’s music is drenched in a southern brew, but she grew up to be a woman way out west. Every song and story reaches back through all the miles, over mountains and around coastal bends, back to her southern roots, but they carry the California breeze. Her lyrics traverse both unknown and familiar roads, her song, “Wild Wonder” is full of her admiration and appreciation for where she’s been … I was born in the world, wild and free, cut my teeth on the mountain and pulled by the rolling breeze. Nights lit by the fire flies. I was running through the dark, humming lullabies that rose like smoke from the sparks.

Los Angeles soon beckoned Cowden, where she fell in love with Venice, California. She took to life on a boat, guitar in one hand, vintage suitcase in the other, and soon enough, L.A. was looking like home. Love – and its songs – soon followed, and for Cowden, it’s all in the songs. She’ll sing, and you’ll hear that there’s no greater inspiration for her than love. Love for the mountains or the sea, a man or a woman, a stranger or a lifelong friend. They can love you, or they can break you in half … but that’s where the songs are.

In Venice, she met fellow musician/ producer, Matt Ellis, and soon discovered that they shared an affinity for boot tapping, knee slapping, folk/blues/roots music. Cowden and Ellis’s individual styles found a perfect bridging point, so they took to road and recorded Go Great Guns at Wave Lab Studios in Tucson, Arizona. The outcome was a heart-full, dusty 6 songs EP, including such signature Cowden songs as “Shotgun Lovin’”, “The Walking Song” and “Round and Round”.

Since then, Lacey has formed a band of amigos that includes Nick Luca (guitar), Jeff Smith (bass), and Dylan Grombacher (drums). They frequent the Southern California music scene and have an ongoing residency called “The Grand Ole Calamity” at Venice’s oldest bar/music venue, The Townhouse/Del Monte Speakeasy. The band is now gearing up to record their debut full- length album, followed by a late summer tour and a cavalcade of local L.A. shows. This is just the beginning of new adventures and the wildest of rides. Get on board!

Chad Carrier

It all started in high school when I was introduced to bands like Queen, David Bowie and Tom Petty. I knew that is something I wanted to do. I played in a few bands in those years playing many parties and a few clubs. Vinyl Shake was the first band I started writing original songs.

A friend of mine Korky Ollerton from the band LAX was joining a new band and asked me to join with him. The band was Easter it started right in the thick of the punk scene one of the pioneers of the 80’s sound. With their record and 12” single getting hits on KROQ, VH1 and MTV.

I live my life large enjoying every moment. We had a lot of success as well as many good musicians in the the band including Mike Ness and Brent Lyles of Social Distortion. Then I joined the intense and volatile all girl oops almost all girl band and Hollywood favorite Lovedog. With an album in Germany and touring of Europe and the West Coast after being courted and not signed by the majors our drummer ended up in Four Non Blondes and Lovedog disintegrated.

Followed by more local success with Black Eyed Susans and CC and the Jackpot Prize ready to start something fresh and without pretension I formed Big Mess. Big Mess has gone on to record 7 albums with an 8th to be released this summer with guest vocalist on two songs Jack Grisham. We have played many tours have several videos and lots of radio airplay and songs in Movies and TV as well as Video games.

I also founded the American Irish band the Shillaly Brothers with great success including a nod to be nominated to win an academy award for the song “Pop” in the soundtrack for the movie “White Irish Drinkers. You are still able to see Easter and Big Mess and Chad Carrier acoustic live with several tours annually and always recording new songs.

Kim Jade

Kim Jade is a funky bassist, a vocalist, songwriter and a guitarist. She is also the leader of her funk band, “Kim Jade and The Good Thing”. Kim Jade has lived and worked as a musician in NYC, Los Angeles, Miami and Washington D.C. She is now living in Key West, FL and working full time playing solo gigs on the guitar and also playing several gigs a month with her band. Before coming to L.A. in 2005, Kim was playing band gigs in NY and recording her first solo album with guitarist/producer Nunzio Signore. When living here in Los Angeles, she was the bassist for Michael Jost’s band, Sugar Bitch. They would often play right here on the beach in Venice. She was also working a lot as a sideman bassist here in L.A. After her time in Los Angeles, she was living in D.C. for 8 years where she first formed the Good Thing band and nurtured her love of funk and soul music. While in D.C., Kim recorded an EP of all original funk music that features a full horn section; she was very inspired by P-Funk, and James Brown as well as Betty Davis and Mothers Finest. That band performed in a lot of big venues in D.C. and opened up for a lot of great funk bands. Kim Jade and The Good Thing Band traveled to Key West in 2016 for a month long gig, and Kim never went home. Since her move to Key West in 2016, Kim Jade brought the funk to the Keys with her new Good Thing band and has developed and honed her skills as a guitarist and a looper; creating her sound as a solo artist. She started writing tunes that feature her guitar and vocal layering techniques. Her solo music is less funky (but still soulful) and more melodic, often melancholy in comparison to her bass-driven funk writing. Kim is loving life down in the Keys, but loves to travel and gig all over the country in the summer; and of course, she loves to come visit Venice whenever she can.
