Boss Knob is the fruit of a long musical relationship between drummer Richard Fultineer, guitarist David Markowitz, bassist Austin Nicholsen, and organist Danny Moynahan-four groovy individuals who have been making music together for over 30 years. They first started playing together in the mega-ensembles CoCu, Osrama, and Ill Brazil. Then they started forming their own projects-first House Brew, then the Guy Fluffner Memorial and another band that shall remain nameless for security purposes, then the Love Uninhibited Orchestra and Fuzznik. More recently, two years ago they embarked on a journey to find the velvety epicenter of vintage lounge cinema music. They believe they are getting very close.

“Millennial southern gents who do modern cowboy rock right.” – ATX On Record
Meet the Austin-based band who is using their music to redefine what it means to be a cowboy. With a sound that lies somewhere in-between Rock n’ Roll and Southern Soul, Cowboy Diplomacy has captivated its audience with their unconventional style and raw lyrics. While frontman Ian Cochran’s unique growl-like vocals tend to draw the crowd in, it’s the energy and music that the band creates as a whole that keeps them around. Evident within their robust sound are traces of notable bands such as Rival Sons, Kaleo, Kings of Leon, and AC/DC—some of whom the band members also draw influence from.
Despite only being a few years old, Cowboy Diplomacy has garnered the attention of many and has earned recognition through various accolades. Within their first year of formation, the band was nominated for “Best New Band” by the Austin Chronicle and came out as the runner-up; in 2017 the band was named “Best Band of Austin” by Austin Monthly and was nominated to receive a grant from Black Fret. The band has also been fortunate enough to work with Grammy-nominated producer Chris Frenchie Smith on the singles “Bad Man” and “Burn Down The Road,” both of which have yet to be released.
2019 is shaping up to be a pivotal year for Cowboy Diplomacy; The band recently invited two new members to join them and are now working on recording new music. They continue to book gigs around Austin and at big festivals like Wild West Brew Fest in April. Recently opened for Bishopp Gunn at The Belmont.
Gretsch singer-songwriter Lynda Kay was born and raised in Dallas, Texas and since 1997 has been based in Venice Beach, California, starting her music career busking on the Boardwalk. She is known for her classic songwriting and diverse contralto voice and has been compared to such great talents as Patsy Cline, Karen Carpenter, Roy Orbison, and Dusty Springfield. Lynda Kay’s new double album Black & Gold features 20 original and cover songs crossing such genres as early 60’s mid-century jazz and classic Bacharach pop to 70’s roots-rock and Memphis-soul and was produced by her husband Jonny Coffin (founder of Coffin Case). The first single of Black & Gold is a never before released song with the late great Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead. The duet titled “The Mask” is far from Kilmister’s well-regarded metal fare, and this poignant Willie Nelson-style ballad, paired with Lynda Kay’s harmonious, yearning voice, reveals a glimpse of his melancholy side, reminiscent of Rick Rubin American Recordings with Johnny Cash.
Songs from Black & Gold are featured in the Golden-Globe Award Winning Series Goliath Season 3 which premiered on October 4, 2019, and Lynda Kay Co-Stars as herself in five of the eight Episodes. A bit of interesting history, Thornton and Kay recorded a duet together for her Dream My Darling album in 2009. Prior to her casting in Goliath, Lynda Kay appeared as herself on FX’s Justified performing her song “Jack & Coke” and several of her original songs were licensed to the series and featured on the Official Justified Soundtrack for Sony Madison Gate Records.
Lynda Kay is a Hollywood darling who’s played the last five Wheel of Fortune events, who Variety calls a “compelling talent… goth-country siren, with her towering beehive and David Lynchian theatrics” and who Quincy Jones said “Never, ever stop singing and dancing girl, you got what it takes!” after he saw her perform at David Arquette’s Wedding.
