Based in Los Angeles since 1997, Matt DeMerritt plays sax, flute, keys, percussion and melodica and has devoted his career to an exploration of music within many styles and mediums. In addition to composing and playing his own music he has been a busy session and backup musician touring with the likes of Macy Gray, De La Soul, Talib Kweli, Rakim, Ghostface Killah, Brother Ali, Redman, Pharoahe Monch, Dakah Hip Hop Orchestra, Orgone, Breakestra, Brazzaville, and Allen Stone. The Elegant Strangers

The Elegant Strangers formed spontaneously at the Westminster Corridor of Venice, CA. This is an area where some of the most gifted artists and musicians come to grab a cup of coffee and some conversation. The band is a bit of a mutation of the erstwhile Venice Roasters, keeping up their tradition of “roasting” (putting an upbeat, two-step tempo) to classic pop and rock music.
