Hannah Rose Dexter plays the bass, almost exclusively. She has traveled the United States and Europe performing jazz, blues, and folkloric music. Her unique style of electric and upright bass playing frees the instrument from its traditional role of glorified kick drum, and into the dynamic voice it’s always been capable of.

She has composed music for a variety of mediums, including the feature film “Wild Prairie Rose” and the indie biopic, “King of LA”. She poured the last 18 years of studying all things low end into her debut solo album released just before the lockdown. “The View From Normal” is a seamless hybrid of multiple genres, displaying her unique perspective on music, life, and the untapped potential of the bass guitar.

She can routinely be heard playing jazz, swing, jump blues, and Greek rebetika, and psychedelic children’s songs in the finer jazz clubs, amusement parks, circuses, and dive bars of greater Los Angeles, supporting other musicians, or leading her own.

A career, that started with performing on street corners, has led to travelling thousands of miles, playing thousands of shows in hundreds of different cities. Justin Curtis has been seen and heard everywhere from cafes and nightclubs to major outdoor music festivals. Featured on CMT and transmitted on television and radio stations around the world.

Sometimes performing solo, with only his guitar, and other times, with a 7-piece band to back him up. The music echoes some obvious rockabilly influences such as Carl Perkins, the Stray Cats, and Johnny Burnette’s Rock’n’Roll Trio. With a commanding baritone voice reminiscent of Johnny Cash, Justin Curtis roams the country singing songs about Love, Trains, and Bad Weather. Just to see the smiling faces in the audience.

“My mom is a Johnny Cash fan, has been since she was a teenager. So, I can honestly say I have been listening to his records since before I was born. Outside the womb, I remember “Ring of Fire” blasting out of the 8-track player in her 1969 Thunderbird as she was trying to talk her way out of another speeding ticket. Besides all the great music from the 1950’s and 1960’s, I also really dig the story-telling styles of Roger Miller and Shel Silverstein and the well-crafted lyrics of Bob Dylan and Kris Kristofferson. Maybe some of those influences find their way into my music as well?”
