Dead Rock West

DEAD ROCK WEST — the acclaimed California alt-country rock group fronted by Cindy Wasserman and Frank Lee Drennen — are heading into 2018 with an array of tour dates. Their recently released album MORE LOVE (August 2017 via Omnivore Recordings) was produced by John Doe of X who helped create an album that places Wasserman and Drennen’s achingly beautiful signature vocals and harmonies in finely etched rock, alt-country and pop settings. The sound is both contemporary and timeless. Click here to listen to “Boundless Fearless Love,” a joyously infectious standout from the album which was praised by Randy Lewis of Los Angeles Times’ Pop & Hiss as he premiered the song (6/21/17) and noted it is “set to a propellant track that’s part R.E.M., part Tom Petty and part Neil Young…”

Says John Doe: “They have combined all of the influences (alt-country, gospel, Everly Bros) from their previous records into this one. Great songs. Great playing. Wonderful performances. More Love is heart & soul from two deeply original singers & songwriters.” Doe adds: “Somehow Cindy & Frank connect the dots between ’70 country & ’60 soul music. They are a modern day Gram & Emmylou singing songs that Otis & Carla would sing.”

Marie-Clo

A true creative chameleon and seasoned traveler, Marie-Clo is a born performer who ropes her audiences into a feverish pitch in both official languages; thanks to “hooked on phonics”. Singer-songwriter and dancer, her eclectic indie pop tackles current themes & conscious lyrics, but also conjures a colourful and enchanted world.

Marie-Clo began her artistic career on stages worldwide performing in musicals, but honed in soon thereafter on her true passion project, music. She is currently promoting her full-length english album entitled Shell(e), which combines her 3 eps Shell(e) Pt I-II-III and one new single. A conceptual feminist narrative, Shell(e) was produced by Polaris shortlisted drummer/producer Olivier Fairfield (Fet Nat, Timber Timbre, Leif Vollebek), with the support of the Ontario Arts Council, the Canada Council for the Arts and FACTOR.

brvthrs.

brvthrs. is a genre bending duo composed of Twin Sis and Sarah Keyser. The two are from completely different musical backgrounds. Pop music connoisseur, Keyser is a Berklee College graduate and Twin Sis is a self taught, Venice Beach native. The two have found a way to follow the written rules of music, while simultaneously throwing them out the window. Keyser’s training in jazz and classical guitar, vocals and songwriting mixed with TS’s vast knowledge and self education spanning over many genres, plus her gift with words, the two make an unbeatable team who’s limits are pushed every time they sit down to write. Their lyrics are raw and emotional, but at the same time clever and thought provoking. brvthrs. makes music because nothing evokes their emotions so intensely. When you hear or see them play, you feel it too.

XAN

Music has always been my passion. I’ve been playing since I was four or five years old. I started by playing the recorder then the harmonica and found myself drawn to church organs but rarely was given the opportunity to play one, and none ever materialized under the Christmas tree. Thanks a lot Santa!

One day I found a guitar that my mom had left behind and by the time I was thirteen I bought my first electric guitar. Soon after I formed my first band with three other kids from school, we called it Black Light Blues. It was fun while it lasted but when I turned fifteen I dropped everything I was doing, including the band and just played when I felt like it.

Without knowing why or how, my inspiration slowly drifted and started sounding more and more like classical music. I started playing on the Venice boardwalk and the first day I made, well … five bucks. That didn’t sound like much but it certainly was enough for a meal. I kept doing it each weekend and gradually made more and more each time. Eventually I took my act to Santa Monica’s 3rd street promenade. Although it wasn’t half as fun as Venice, there I found a very appreciative crowd. I eventually got to work and recorded my first CD. It took me three years but I did it!

Ever since I’ve been doing more professional work such as studio sessions, short movie soundtracks, private events and small concerts as a solo act and with other artists.
