He never misses a note. With over 10 years of experience with the guitar combined with his extensive performing and touring record, Runson Willis is finally ready to embark on his solo career. The Los Angeles based artist, calls on his idols, Isaac Hayes, Aretha Franklin, Willie Guthrie and Willie Nelson as constant reminder of the level of greatness he is working toward. With roots in the deep south, you can hear the soul in every lyric he sings and note he plays.
Runson is geared up and ready to bring his music to the world! From his own words:
“this guitar is noisy, beat up and it may have a lot of scratches on it. But it’s true, it’s lasted a long time and it hasn’t gone anywhere. And I think it’s like me.”
Based out of Nashville, Tennessee, Cristina Vane is taking the town by storm with her unique blend of blues and folk. Originally from Europe, she draws from such a great host of influences that it is impossible to compare her music to any one artist. That being said, she draws decisively from country blues, delta blues, and American folk music, creating her own flavor of the blues. Whether on the Venice boardwalk busking by the beach or on a stage in Mississippi, her signature resonator bottleneck playing and powerful vocals are unmistakable and unforgettable.
Before falling in love with the blues, Cristina spent her childhood and adolescence studying classical voice, music theory, piano and flute, ever consumed by music. She has love for many kinds of music, ranging from baroque classical to punk and metal. This theme continues throughout her career today; while she predominantly plays slide guitar, she employs fingerpicking, acoustic, electric guitar techniques, as well as clawhammer banjo playing.
Cristina had been performing in the Southern California area for nearly four years when she embarked on a 5 month tour, summer of 2018. While Cristina spent summers gigging in both New York and London previous to her move to Venice, she had never traveled the United States extensively and found her tour to be a personal and musical success. Her effervescent and edgy personality make for entrancing live performances, which she has honed with hours of practice playing in venues across the country as well as busking for the public on Venice Beach for several years. It is safe to say Cristina lives through music, it saturates her life and is, for her, a necessary vehicle for expression.
Years on the road as a nomad eventually brought Drew Dolan to the realization of his purpose: to connect people through music. This approach has combined a genuine need for cathartic creation that simultaneously draws a thread to the listener. With story-telling lyrics that are delivered with a soulful voice that travels from silky smooth to as gritty as gravel, his “true stories” matched with his keyboard playing groove their way into the ears and hearts of whoever listens.
With a style that has a firm foundation in his Chicago roots, Drew Dolan draws influences from all over the map. With hints of Bill Withers, Leon Russell, Dr. John, Ray Charles, The Meters to name a few, he bridges the gap between yesteryear and present day.
Dolan was the former lead singer/writer of The Proof., who released an EP called “Bang Bang” (leading single “Happy Street”), enjoyed success online with features on Jam in the Van and Sofar Sounds and quickly attracted a Soundcloud following that reached over 200,000 spins in less than two years. The music found a home on terrestrial radio as well on esteemed stations such as KCRW (featured release on “Morning Becomes Eclectic”) and many other non-com/college stations across the country. After years of playing some of LA’s most renowned stages (The Troubadour, The Hotel Cafe, Harvelle’s, Mrs. Fish) the band recently decided to move in different directions.
He is currently writing, playing as a soloist and collaborating with a new cast of talented musicians. Whether playing solo or with his new project “The Council,” Dolan’s sonic offering is to be experienced and shared.
Stay tuned for new releases coming out at the end of 2017!
We asked Brian to send us his bio and he responded:
My work draws inspiration from pee wee fight songs and the indifference of the female praying mantis. Hoping to convey a youthful outlook whilst soiling my clothes
